METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a warm and sticky glob. Once that happens, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum residue. Then we move the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal, we will not use high pressure because that could harm the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses any more pressure than needed to clean concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our chewing gum removal service.
